Mr. Robert Julian Imhoff , GE Aerospace, Cincinnati, OH
Corrosion has been shown to degrade fatigue performance in laboratory testing, but its role in service fractures/findings can often be more difficult to confirm. This talk will review examples of gas turbine fielded hardware, in which corrosion fatigue is suspected, outline challenges of identifying corrosion-assisted damage mechanisms during post-event metallurgical evaluations, and summarize current laboratory understanding of corrosion-fatigue interactions.
