HFQ® is a disruptive manufacturing process with growing adoption across the automotive, aerospace, defence, and consumer goods industries. Enabling production of ultra-high strength aluminium alloys in a cost-effective and scalable production setup for a wide range of applications, HFQ® has a lot to offer.

Combining a hot forming process with quenching in-tool, HFQ® enables the unique proposition of high-formability for even the strongest of aluminium alloys, in combination with tight dimensional accuracy and repeatability. This combination allows the technology to form complex geometries whilst eliminating multiple process steps for heat-treatable 2xxx, 6xxx and 7xxx alloys. These inherent advantages can be leveraged to deliver a series of benefits to those who adopt the technology including cost reduction, weight reduction, part consolidation, coupled with right-first-time production parts without extensive development times, tooling rework, or a string of downstream correction processes.

In addition to the design and processing benefits that are typically considered, there are further benefits HFQ® allows to incoming material supply. HFQ® enables use of F-temper sheet, widening supply chain options and reducing material costs. Additionally, HFQ® is able to make use of fully recycled aluminium alloys with no compromises to formability or final properties, making it a manufacturing technology of growing importance in a time where lifetime carbon footprint and a circular economy are of growing importance.

In our presentation at the 2026 IMAT conference, HFQ Technology Associates look forward to sharing how the HFQ® process works, how it delivers the wide range of benefits described, and how it can be applied across multiple industries to give adopters a leap forward in their products.
