Stainless steel braided hoses are ubiquitous in our homes and can be found in a variety of environments. When installed in kitchens or bathrooms, especially under sinks or in enclosed cabinets, the exterior reinforcing braids can be exposed to various corrosive chemicals and contaminants, potentially increasing the susceptibility to environmentally assisted cracking. In this talk, we will address whether the residual stress from manufacturing stainless steel braided hoses is sufficient for the onset of stress corrosion cracking in different possible household corrosive environments.
