Foundry sand failure analysis: Evaluation of raw materials and contributing factors causing production fallout

A sand foundry reportedly disposed over a third of their sand mold production and scrapped over half of its pieces of production following delivery of new sand. The allegation was that the sand batch was either contaminated or powdered prior to or upon delivery causing the fallout. This presentation discusses the methods used to evaluate the raw materials and what factors may have contributed to the production loss.
