Glass is ubiquitous in our world. Over time, glass naturally suffers damage from large impacts, abrasion, staining, and other effects. This presentation explores the effects of metalworking in close proximity to glass, particularly those processes which have the potential to cause physical damage to the glass surface. These processes can affect the clarity of the glass and create potential losses in its mechanical strength, possibly affecting the glass product lifespan. Multiple metalworking techniques will be discussed along with an examination of the effects of each upon glass at varying distances. Examination of the residues produced by these processes will be included.
