Corrosion of Stainless Steel Materials

Stainless steels can produce unexpected and unusual failures compared to carbon steels due to their complex alloy chemistry and microstructure. Unfortunately, designers often perceive “stainless” steels to be impervious to all environments and thus the premium choice for an application. This talk will discuss several projects where poor selection of stainless steels resulted in failures.
