Corrosion of steel reinforcement is a major failure mechanism of structural concrete. Determining the extend of corrosion and predicting the corrosion progress becomes important in critical pieces of infrastructure.
In this work, we conduct a potential and resistivity survey, we take cores and analyze them for chloride content. We determine the depth of steel reinforcement using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR).
Using the data collected in this investigation, and based on diffusion theory, we use Monte Carlo simulation to predict when corrosion will take place and determine the remaining service life of the structure. We determine zones that have existing corrosion and prescribe repair solutions to limit corrosion effects on the structure.
