Analog Building Blocks: Circuits and Devices

J. Fullerton, Analog Devices Inc., Wilmington, MA; D. Sargent, S. Haidar, J. McCarthy, R. Fecteau, Analog Devices Inc., Cambridge, MA

Abstract: Analog circuits are not just found in stand-alone analog products. Many products containing varying amounts of digital circuitry also contain analog circuitry. This analog circuitry brings unique challenges to the failure analyst. The tutorial will discuss analog devices and circuits, from both operational and physical perspectives. It will begin with a discussion of the basic building blocks followed by more complex analog circuits. Finally, the various methods and materials used to build these devices will be compared with emphasis on the potential failure mechanisms of each.
