Frictional Properities of M3B2 Boride Cermet Coating

K. Hamashima, N. Tomita, Asahi Glass co., LTD., Yokohama-shi, Japan

Thermal spray coatings of new Mo-Ni-B and Mo-Co-B  cermets were developed. These cermet coating have superior properties than carbide cermets(i.e. WC-Co, Cr3C2-Ni/Cr) at high temperature. Thier hardness and oxidation resistance are higher than Cr3C2-Ni/Cr coating having same metal contents at 873-1073K. Especialy, its friction coefficient to steel and glass is low. The mechanism of low friction and other features will be shown in this presentation.

Summary: Thermal spray of new M3B2(M:metal) cermet was developed. This cermet coating have superior properties than carbide cermets at high temperature. Especially, its friction coefficient to steel and glass is low.
