Effects of Powder Injection on Deposit Efficiency in Plasma Spraying

S. Abukawa, T. Takabatake, K. Tani, Tocalo Co.,Ltd, Akashi, Japan

In plasma spraying, generally, powder is radially injected into plasma jet. However, percentage of particles which have enough enthalpy to melt is not high in the way of injection, that seems to lead to low deposit efficiency paticulally for ceramic powder. In this research, radial injection powder port was attached on the axial injection torch in order to inject powder into the same plasma jet from the different direction. And shape change of powder which through the plasma jet was observed, and deposit efficiency of ceramic powder was measured and compared those results.

Summary: In plasma spraying, generally, powder is radially injected into plasma jet. And the powder orbit and the shape of the flame were obserbed, and deposit efficiency of alumina powder was measured and the results were compared with each other.
