Modelling of Motion and Heating of Powder Particles in Laser, Plasma and Hybrid Spraying

A. I. Bushma, Y. S. Borisov, I. V. Krivtsun, The E.O. Paton Electric Welding Institute, Kiev, Ukraine

A mathematical model for simulation of the fine-sized ceramic particles motion and heating in plasma and laser spraying, as well as applied to a novel process – hybrid laser-plasma spraying, is proposed. The trajectories, velocities and temperature fields of the fine-sized SiO2 particles, being sprayed using Ar-plasma jet, CO2-laser beam and their combination, have been calculated. The essential influence of the spraying method on the time-spatial distribution of temperature in the spray particles has been demonstrated.
