Fe-Al crystalline and Al-Cu-Cr quasicrystalline coatings were fabricated on substrate of mild steel by high-velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) spraying method. The tribological properties of the coatings were comparatively investigated on a pin-on-disk tribometer under dry sliding wear conditions, by measuring the friction coefficients and weight losses. SEM and XRD were employed to analyze the morphologies and phase structures of the coatings, to demonstrate the influence of the coating microstructures on the frictional and wear behaviors.

Summary: HVOF Fe-Al crystalline and Al-Cu-Cr quasicrystalline coatings were prepared on mild steel substrate by Sulzer Metco DJ2700. The friction coefficients and weight losses of the coatings were measured on a pin-on-disk tribometer MMW-1 (JiNan, China). The influence of the microstructure difference between crystalline and quasicrystalline coatings on their frictional and wear properties was comparatively investigated.
