Novel High Chromium Containing Braze Filler Metals for Heat Exchanger Applications

S. Rangaswamy, D. Fortuna, Sulzer Metco (US) Inc., Troy, MI

A new family of high chromium containing braze filler metal compositions were developed. Filler metal properties such as melting range, flow, wetting to base metals are discussed in comparison with cureently available and well known filler metals. Additionally, the suitability of these new compositions as potential candidates in fabricating flat plate type of heat exchangers and catalytic converters is discussed. The economic benefits of the new filler metals is also compared to existing Nickel based filler metals.

Summary: New Iron and Nickel based Braze alloys are developed for high temperature braze applications, for example, heat exchangers and catalytic converters. Technical properties and economic advantages will be presented and discussed.
