Comparison of FeAl Coatings Prepared by HVOF and Detonation Spray

Y. Gao, L. Z. Zhang, Dalian Maritime University, Dalian, China

FeAl intermetallic have attracted special interests their high temperature oxidation and good corrosion resistance and low-cost materials. However, its propensity for brittle fracture has hindered its utilization as engineering materials. For utilization excellent properties of FeAl coatings were prepared by the detonation and HVOF thermal spray. The microstructure of coatings prepared by the detonation spray shows the sandwich conformation which was influence by the detonation energy, and the phase formation of the coatings in both process was investigated by X-ray diffraction.
