Characteristics of Microplasma Spraying of NiCrBSi Coatings

D. He, Q. Zhao, X. Sun, J. Jiang, X. Li, Beijing University of Technology, Beijing, China

In this study, the NiCrBSi coatings on Q235 mild steel substrate were deposited by microplasma spraying(MPS). The influence of the spray parameters (including, fuel flow rate, spray distance and current etc.) on the microstructure and properties of coatings was investigated. Metallographic investigations and porosity measurements of the coatings were carried out using optical microscopy. The abrasion wear resistance properties were examined on the MLS-225 wet sand/rubber wheel tester. The results showed that the spraying parameters significantly influence the properties of the coatings. The porosity of thick coatings was below 4%. The hardness of almost coatings was more 700 HV0.1. The coating exhibited a high average adhesive strength of more than 50MPa though the particle velocity was lower.
