Wear and Erosion Resistance Properties of Fe/TiB2 Coatings Prepared by Arc Spraying

Z. Li, J. Fang, Y. Shi, Q. Wei, Beijing University of Technology, China, Beijing, China

It has already been get attention that excellent erosion resistance and corrosion resistance nanostructured coatings can be prepared by thermal spraying nanostructured powders. In this study, the velocity, temperature and size of particles of arc spraying different contents micron-and nanostructured powder were measured by Spraying Watch and Scan Electron Microscope(SEM). And the deformation of different particles was observed by optical microscope and 3D Surface Profile, the effect of micron-and nanostructured powder on the flight characteristics and deformation of the particles was analyzed. Mechanical properties of coating was tested. The results show that micron-and nanostructured powder can improve bonding strength and toughness of coating, non-direct relationships do exist between powder size and the abrasive wear resistance of coating, however, the erosion resistance of coatings intensively depends on materials size. The influence mechanism of micro-and nanosturctured powder on the particles characteristics and coating properties were investigated .

Summary: (1)the powder feedstock size has little effect on the abrasive wear resistance of coatings. (2)the miceo-and nanostructured powder feedstock can improve bonging strength and toughness of coatings.the properties of erosion resistance of micro-and nano alternational coating have improved.
