Characterisation of Coatings Sprayed with AMT200 HVOF System

P. H. Liao, P. C. Coddet, University of Technology Belfort-Montbeliard, Belfort Cedex, France; G. Zhang, University of Technology Belfort-Montbeliard, Belfort cedex, France; B. Hansz, HMRexpert, Etupe, France; S. Keller, AMT, Dottingen, Switzerland

WC/Co and MCrAlY coatings were sprayed using a CDS HVOF and an AMT 200 HVOF system with Natural gas as combustible gas. An Xplorer diagnostics system was employed for measuring properties of in-flight particles.. Influences of different parameters on the particle velocity and temperature and on the splats morphology were studied. Various coating analysis were carried out in term of microstructure, phase transformations, oxide content, porosity rate, micro-hardness, adherence etc. Results show that AMT 200 HVOF system has a higher particle velocity due to a flame stabilising chamber with a higher pressure thus elaborating high-quality coatings.
