Clad Composite Powders enable the combination of high hardness cermets and high toughness ductile phases into a single particle delivery vehicle.  When sprayed using appropriate HVOF, HVAF, plasma, or cold spray technologies these structured feedstocks produce a controlled and optimized coating microstructures.  The “meso”structured coating structure produced from clad composite powders results in extremely high hardness and corrosion resistance cobined with exceptional toughness.  We have demonstrated 2 orders of magnitude improvement in wear resistance, 50% imporved fatigue resistance, and 7-10 fold increase in component life in sliding, fretting, and impact wear applications due to the revolutionary increase in toughness and hardness enabled through the use of clad compsite powders.   This presentation will discuss powder processing, manufacturing, and availability of clad composite powders currently available to the market, and discuss the features advantagesm and benefits derived from using these structured feedstocks.
