In order to protect gas turbines blades against high temperature wear, corrosion and oxidation they are typically coated with MCrAlY materials. Due to the requirements of increased service temperatures and improved life times, the mechanical and chemical requirements for the coatings also increase. In order to meet these requirements, MCrAlY feedstocks can be strengthened with oxide hard phases, e.g. by using high energy ball milling. This results in a higher resistance against abrasive wear and a oxidation rate similar to the rate of conventional MCrAlY coatings. The erosive wear of these coatings are tested and analysed within the frame of this work. Furthermore, the behaviour of the strengthened coatings within a corrosive environment at temperatures up to 1000°C is verified and compared to conventional coating systems.
