Cold gas spray was used to create anatase phase titaniumdioxide layers on metal surfaces. A clear dependency of spray temperature, substrate material and deposition efficiency was identified. Even at high gas temperatures, no phase transition from the very active anatase to the less active rutile structure could be observed. The result is a very high initial photocatalytic activity of the layers, which is similar to the initial activity of the powder. Therefore, the technique has strong application potentials in water and gas purification.
