AC2.2 TBC System of Milled MCrAlY Bond Coat and SPPS TBC

TBC systems have been prepared on Inconel 738 base material using standard and milled MCrAlYs as bond coat by HVOF and LPPS with TBCs applied by standard APS and SPPS. These TBC systems have been tested under cycling oxidation condition, for erosion resistance and for corrosion behavior in melted salt. Isothermal oxidation at 1000°C for 5000 hours has been performed on the overlay systems. The milled systems show a high temperature oxidation resistance of about twice as much than standard MCrAlY systems. TBC systems with milled bond coat show cycling oxidation resistance of about three times better than standard TBC systems.
