Tuesday, May 22, 2012: 8:00 AM
Room 335 AB (Hilton Americas Houston )
Dr. Jean-Gabriel Legoux , National Research Council Canada - Industrial Materials Institute, Boucherville, QC, Canada
Twenty years after the first US cold spray patent, the cold spray process has moved beyond the researching stage and it is now in the implementation stage, specifically being utilized in the industrial and aerospace sectors. At the same time, with the help of modern diagnostic tools that enable researchers to validate models and provide deeper material characterization, our fundamental understanding of the process has increased tremendously. This has allowed for further improvement of the technology and the identification or validation of new potential applications.

This presentation will summarize the recent advances in cold spray development from around the world, looking from both an industrial point of view as well as from an academic perspective. Equipment and materials development and evolution will be discussed as well as process optimization.
