Cold spray deposition process involves the propulsion of powder particles of a material at supersonic velocities on to the surface of a part or a substrate to form protective coatings, restore dimensions, repair damage, or for the rapid prototyping/manufacturing of near-net shape components.  The powder particle temperature is low and deposition occurs in solid state.  This provides for a number of unique benefits such as high density of the coating/deposited material that is relatively free of oxidation, porosity and segregation, and for the synthesis of novel micro- and nano-structures with enhanced properties. These attributes makes the cold spray process amenable to a diverse array of applications in manufacturing, energy, defense, and transportation sectors.  Research and development activities in the area of cold spray materials deposition technology are ongoing in recent years at industries, national laboratories, and universities world-wide and are pointing to ever increasing opportunities for applications of this technology.
