Introduction of Modern Coating Technology for Thermal Barrier Coatings in the Aero and Industrial Gas Turbine Industry

ABSTRACT

Thermal barrier coatings are used widely in aero industry and industrial gas turbines. The requirements on performance and endurance increase constantly in order to produce more fuel-efficient and powerful systems. On the other hand the robustness of the coating process and cost effectiveness must be considered. In the field of atmospheric plasma spray the TriplexPro™ technology was introduced. Its impact, some example applications and its introduction into a production enviroment will be presented.

Sulzer Metco started a few years ago the development of the PS-PVD technology. From cooperative projects with OEM’s to introduce the technology into the industry promising results were obtained. The requirements to introduce new coating technologies will be discussed in the panel session.
