The paper discusses a possibility of metallization of polymers using low and high pressure cold spray (Dymet 413 and Kinetics 3000). The bonding mechanism of the coating is discussed as well as the influence of the spraying on the substrate properties. Two commercial powders were used: (i) tin; and (ii) aluminum. The substrates were: (i) polymer PA6; (ii) carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) and; (iii) polymer ABS. The substrate topography was modified with sand-blasting and characterized using stationary profilometer and confocal microscope. The adhesion strength, electrical conductivity and microstructure were determined. The temperature of the substrate surface at spraying was measured with thermocouples. The changes in polymer structure were studied using differential scanning calorimeter. Finally the comparison with other metallization methods was made and the application of cold spray for producing conductive paths was analyzed.
