In this study different methods of surface preparation for thermally sprayed coatings were investigated. Abrasive blasting or other surface preparation methods are prohibited for many parts of aviation, engineering and medical industries . In this work the combination of surface preparation and thermal spraying were achieved by using only D-Gun equipment. To obtain the best results of adhesion and increase the usage time of D-Gun well-known D-Gun (Ob’-2) was modified.
Modeling of particles temperatures, their velocities and distribution during D-Gun spraying process was permitted to develop method of calculating aggregate state of powders particles from D-Gun nozzle to substrate and choose optimal spraying and abrasive blasting parameters using modified D-Gun.
Microstructure characterization and adhesion of the detonation coatings were studied compared to standard coatings. Results of tests will be useful to identify capabilities and limits of new technique of surface preparation for thermally sprayed coatings using modified D-Gun.
