In this presentation, the fabrication and characterization of novel TBCs with microstructure design in the bond and top coats have been focused. The bond coats (NiCrAlY and CoNiCrAlY) were deposited by the HVOF and APS processes, and the top coats (8YSZ and La2Zr2O7) were deposited by APS process. The feeding rate and spray distance in preparing were controlled. The correlation between the microstructure and the mechanical and thermal properties was studies. Cyclic thermal fatigue tests were performed at 1100 °C to investigate the effects of feedstock species and coating structure on the thermal durability and thermo-mechanical properties. The novel TBCs showed a better thermal durability, compared with the common TBCs of single layer and/or 8YSZ. These investigations are essential for improving the reliability and lifetime performance of TBC system, and will be proposed the efficient and significant coating in protecting substrate from the thermal and mechanical environments.
