Lanthanum aluminate (LaAlO3 or LAO) is a so-called pseudocubic perovskite at room temperature shows a stable rhombohedral structure (R-3c) and transforms to cubic (Pm-3m) at temperatures above 527 °C, has gained great importance in variety of applications in recent years [Deren et al (2007)]. The effect of rare earth doping on thermo-physical properties, different preparation methods of LaAlO3 powders are observed in literature. In the present work the LAO was obtained by Pechini method modified by spray dryer as a novel technique to reduce the synthesis time and structural characterization was analyzed and compared with other techniques [Barrison et al (2007), Pechini M. P. et al (1967)], . The precursor sol obtained by … was dried in a spray dryer. Annealed temperature was in a range of 700 °C to 1000 °C to find the crystalline phase. Characterization was carried out by XRD, IR, SEM, and TEM. The pure LAO structure was obtained at 800 °C and by means of spray dryer was reduced the synthesis time. The first results indicate that LAO could be useful for multifunctional applications.
