Abstract- The properties of current production coatings are highly diverse. For example, thicknesses can range from 120 to 1200 microns and other properties have large variation, as well. This suggests that there is no perfect coating and different applications call for different compromises between coating factors such as: thermal conductivity, erosion resistance, CMAS resistance, thickness, cost and more. In light of this, the ability to produce a wide range of microstructures with one material might be an asset. The diverse range of microstructures possible for solution sprayed yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) will be discussed in this context.
