Application of different selflubricating coatings became a hot topic, and it is worth noting that today tribotechnical characteristics of high-speed lubricant free friction systems yet remains elusive.
In this study selflubricating coatings were deposited using thermal spraying techniques on a steel substrate. The surface roughness, chemical composition and microstructure of these coatings were characterised by a surface profilometer, optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The microhardness of the coatings was measured and the wear behaviour of the coatings was examined.
The results showed the presence of functional relationships between the coating’s characteristics, adhesion and wear resistance. This information could be useful for future works to ensure or even to improve wear resistance of selflubricating coatings.
