Tribological characterization of Ni based welding grade powders

Abstract – Within most industrial applications, significant financial losses may be incurred due to accelerated wear of different components. In order to minimize the effects of mechanical wear and improve the product life, thermal spray coating can be used as cost effective technique. The advantages of these coatings are easy applicability, less possibilities of metallurgical changes and low distortion of coated parts. In this study, thermal spray coating (Oxy-Acetylene Torch, manual method) has been carried out using three Nickel based powders. The coatings have been characterized for their tribological property like erosion wear as per ASTM standard.
