Comparative Study of High Temperature Oxidation Behavior of Wire Arc Sprayed Ni-20Cr and Ni-5Al Coatings
In the present investigation, the high temperature oxidation behavior of Wire Arc sprayed Ni-20Cr and Ni-5Al coatings on T22 steel were studied. The study was performed at 900°C for 50 cycles, where each cycle consisted of 1 hour heating at 900°C followed by 20 min of cooling in air at ambient room temperature. The kinetics of oxidation was established using weight change measurements for the bare and coated boiler steels. The oxidized coated and bare samples were characterized using XRD, SEM/EDS, X-ray mapping analyses. The coated samples offered excellent oxidation resistance to the base steel. This may be attributed to the formation of strong protective Cr2O3 and Al2O3 phases.
