Abstract

The 8wt.% yttria stabilized zirconia(8YSZ) are usually adopted to be the top coatings in the thermal barrier coatings(TBCs). However, previous research reported that the nanostructured 5wt.% YSZ is better than 8wt.% YSZ coating to resist high temperature sintering and thermal shock. In this study nano agglomerated powders were thermal sprayed to prepare nanostructured coating. We further studied the changes of microstructure (cross-sections) of 5YSZ and 8YSZ coating after heat treated at 1400℃ for 1h, 5h, and 20h, furthermore the changes of the porosity, hardness and unmelted grain size of the two nanostructured coatings were investigated.
