As part of it’s commitment to the environment and occupational health and safety, the aerospace industry has committed to the removal of hexavalent chromium (Cr+6) plating from it’s products. One of the last obstacles to achieving this goal was the replacement of hard chromium plating in the internal diameters of landing gear components. This presentation will discuss the development of the HaloJetTM ID HVOF system for downhole tool ID coating applications in 2019, the collaboration to tailor HaloJet TM coatings for landing gear applications with internal diameters as small as 63mm (2.5”), and the testing and certification process leading to the deployment of HaloJetTM coatings as a replacement for Cr+6 containing plating processes in advance of the EU REACh mandates.
