The Nitriding of Cold Sprayed Al by Heat Treatment

The nitriding of cold sprayed aluminum (Al) was investigated. The aluminum composites(Al-metal) was sprayed by cold spray process, and then the heat treatment was carried out under N2 atmosphere. For the nitriding of Al, the IMCs (Intermetallic Compound) formation between Al and the metals such as, Ni, Fe, were necessary by cold spray and heat treatment. With these combinations (the high impact on Al-metals by cold spray of other metals and the diffusion of Al (the solid state reaction) into other metals by heat treatment in N2 atmosphere, the cold sprayed aluminum (Al) with high strength were obtained by nitriding.
