In the kinetic spraying of brittle ceramics such as aerosol deposition and hybrid aerosol deposition, the deformation behavior of single particles upon impact plays an important role. We previously reported that a single particle compression test by utilizing a nanoindenter was useful to observe the deformation behavior of single particles. Pseudo-plastic deformation of brittle ceramic particles is considered to be responsible for the densification of ceramic coatings. Recently, the texture formation in the aerosol deposition is reported. However, no report has studied the influence of texture in single particle compression. Therefore, in this study, we examine the influence of particle texture on the deformation of single particles in compression test by the introduction of electron backscattered diffraction. If the texture dependency is confirmed, it will provide new insight into the kinetic spray of brittle materials.
