In this study, systematic microstructure analysis of cold sprayed Cu-10wt%Ni, Cu-10wt%Sn, and MoldMAX V® High Strength Copper (composition Cu-7wt%Ni-2wt%Si-0.9wt%Cr, from here on referred to as HS Cu) coating samples are conducted. The effect of feedstock materials and processing conditions, mainly the processing temperature, on the resulting formation of microstructural features is evaluated by comparing the cross-section microstructures of the coatings. The comparison between the properties and microstructure of the gas atomized feedstock powders and the cold sprayed coatings is also studied to analyze the effect of the cold spray processing conditions on the feedstock material. The deformation mechanism during the cold spray process will be explored, and the dependency of coating properties on feedstock materials as well as processing temperatures is also investigated.
