Cold Spray Additive Manufacturing (CSAM) is an innovative technology that offers distinct advantages that complement and expand upon traditional melt-based additive manufacturing processes. The Thermal and Kinetic Spray Research Laboratory at Sandia National Laboratories has recently undertaken several initiatives to enhance the integration of CSAM within the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Sandia is currently engaged in many areas of active research, including the development of CSAM toolpath software, the application of CSAM to refractory materials, heat treatments for cold spray deposits, machinability of cold spray material, residual stress evolution, and the mechanical properties of CSAM builds. This presentation will highlight these areas of research at Sandia, explore future applications and developments in cold spray technology at Sandia, and potential areas for external collaboration.
SNL is managed and operated by NTESS under DOE NNSA contract DE-NA0003525
