A big difference in elastic modulus between metallic implants and human bone may cause stress shielding effect which leads to bone resorption or implant failure. This has forced many efforts to lower elastic modulus of titanium alloys widely used in biomedical devices. This study discusses theoretical alloy design procedure for low modulus titanium alloys and parameters influencing on elastic moduli of binary titanium alloys containing Zr, Hf, Nb and Ta.
