Micronsized Porosity Produced on Surfaces of 316L and CoCr

A. L. Salwén, Corrosion & Metals Research Institute (KIMAB), Stockholm, Sweden; C. Laumen, The Linde Group, Linde Gas Division, Unterschleissheim, Germany; S. Wiberg, AGA Gas, Sundbyberg, Sweden

A novel process has been devised to produce porosity on the surface of 316L and CoCr. The porosity has been produced as a connected network with pore diameters of typically 1-10 micons. The thickness of the porous surface region is typically several pore diameters. The porous surface may be used in e.g. catalyst, heat transfer and drug/chemical carrier applications.

Summary: A novel process produces micronsized pores on 316L and CoCr
