Overview:
Designing materials to resist high temperature environmental attack is critical to several industries, e.g., aerospace, defense, energy generation, waste incineration, etc. Understanding corrosion mechanisms, designing alloys, and developing coatings are all key elements in mitigating the effects of corrosive attack. Insights into each of the above areas are critical to the development of engineering systems capable of operating in hostile high temperature environments. The program will present important insights into the fundamental and applied aspects of high temperature corrosion resistance and alloy development. Resistance to corrosive attack by the use of protective coatings will be another key theme. From the diverse papers in the two sessions, it is clear that understanding the complex environment-alloy interactions, innovative alloy design approaches, and the development of novel coatings are all important to achieve corrosion protection in critical engineering systems.
