Overview:

Our purpose is to bring together the diverse community of nanomaterials scientists and technologists working in academia, national laboratories, and industries to discuss the latest developments in this field. The focus of the program will be to provide a forum for the investigators to discuss the present research and development activities and suggest future directions for research, manufacturing, and applications in this important area. An industry evening is also planned to establish a dialogue between people working in research laboratories and industries. From the five sessions, people will be able to get a complete overview of the broad field of nanocrystalline materials, plan for future research directions and appreciate the manufacturing problems involved.

Panel Discussion: Recent Trends in Nanotechnology

A special feature of this symposium will be a panel discussion on Recent Trends in Nanotechnology. In the recent past, there has been a burst of activity in all aspects of nanotechnology, including academic research, filing of patent applications, venture capital investment in start-ups, and heavy involvement by the industry at large. Studies on the health and environmental effects of nanotechnology are also making headlines. Despite the flood of action, it is at best nebulous as to how the burgeoning Nanotechnology Industry will shape up over the next three to five years. A panel of scientists and business professionals will sort through all of these, and offer their perspectives.

Some of the issues that will be addressed are (i) how the US government is positioning our nation to continue to maintain the edge in Nanotechnology, (ii) how the investment community views this new market sector, (iii) what product categories will most benefit from nanotechnology in the recent future, and (iv) what impact the environmental rules and regulations will have on the growth of the Nanotechnology sector.

The audience will get a global perspective of the current activity on all fronts in the field of Nanotechnology.
