Overview:
The medium of choice for storage and retrieval of material property data has changed over the years from paper to electronic. This demands evaluation of the source, searchability and reliability of material property databases. Consistent data formats are needed to utilize these databases with various computer codes. Enhanced markup languages, such as MatML, are needed to improve the efficiency of electronic data exchange. The program focuses on the spectrum of functionality for material property databases and the scope of properties of interest to designers, materials engineers, and the modeling and simulation community. One session focuses on the status of development and trial applications of MatML, the extensible markup language developed specifically for the exchange of materials information. The second session focuses on collection, dissemination and utilization of materials data via the web. The two sessions provide a forum for learning and discussing recent developments in the electronic storage and delivery of materials property data and for developing strategies for further improvements.
