Overview:
There is increasing use of higher strength steels to reduce structure weight, sophisticated methods for thermal cutting and joining to improve structural integrity and reduce fabrication cost, and impetus to reduce the cost of manufacturing steel products. These trends have led to the development of new steels, more cost effective production methods, and improved fabrication techniques.
This symposium will focus on advances in steel composition, manufacturing technology, fabrication and welding for improving the integrity of fabricated structures such as buildings, bridges, linepipe, ships, heavy machinery, and construction equipment. The conference program will focus on physical metallurgy, processing, and weldability of steels used in fabricated structures.
From the two sessions, it will become clear that both reduced cost and improved performance are attainable with the use of new steel products, innovative manufacturing approaches and improved fabrication techniques.
