Improved materials and innovative processing methods are often critical to the optimum performance of engineering components used in industrial manufacturing and processing. Alloy designs and materials development (which include consideration of thermomechanical conditions and microstructural evolution during service) are required to meet the demands imposed by industrial applications.
The reduction of energy during manufacturing is dependent on innovative materials processing methods that can operate at high efficiencies and yields, and reduce scrap and waste and/or eliminate processing steps. Advanced materials processes are also needed to produce industrial engineering components with unique properties specifically tailored for the severe service conditions in industrial processes.
