An Industrial Perspective on New Materials for a Hydrogen Economy

T. Copeman, Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., Allentown, PA

The impact of a fully developed hydrogen economy is far reaching. Development and commercialization of fuel cell and hydrogen-energy technologies is underway globally. While there are various demonstrations in progress, much needs to be done to advance material technologies, which are key to realizing successful implementation in the commercial markets.

This presentation will provide an overview of the transportation, stationary, and portable energy market segments, and discuss the associated challenges in hydrogen production, distribution, storage, sensing, and fueling. Pathways to build a hydrogen infrastructure will be reviewed. From an industrial-market perspective, the need for new and improved materials will be presented.
