R. W. Warke, LeTourneau University, Longview, TX
Drawing on his own 17 years of experience, as well as that of numerous others, the author will present a historical review of weldment failure, illustrated with several representative case studies. Emphasis will be placed on the complex and often overlooked interrelationships between their physical metallurgy, mechanical properties, residual stresses, geometry and service environment, which make the design and failure analysis of weldments a truly interdisciplinary challenge.
