Summary: Nickel-base Deloro 50 was deposited on 316 LN stainless steel using plasma-transferred arc welding. The deposit was characterized by hardness measurements, microstructural examination and high-temperature sliding wear assessment. Precipitates were identified by XRD and SEM/EDAX. Ultrasonic method was used to evaluate elastic modulus and Poisson’s ratio of the deposit and hence, the initial Hertzian contact stress.
