Surface Finish and Roundness in Very Small and Deep Hole Drilling

R. Sagar, AIT, Pathumathani, Thailand

View in WORD format

Summary: The very small holes of diameter 0.3 mm and 100 mm deep were made with the help of ECM .The material was an MMC of Al-SiC. This MMC was produced using vacuum casting. The tool used was a thin Platinum wire guided through a thin capillary glass tube. Once a small hole was made it guided the wire to the desired depth. The wear of wire was negligible. The workpiece was cut and the roundness and surface finish was evaluted by transverse cutting.
