Wear Issues in the Heavy Equipment Industry

Machinery in the heavy equipment industry such as agricultural, construction, forestry and mining, is required to function in severe environments of wear, corrosion and impact, and require special surface modification considerations to extend machine service life.  The paper reviews currently available technologies and also some new viable techniques of surface modification which can help the industry.  It discusses the need for research and development to further reduce rate of degradation and enhance performance quality   of machines in this important industry segment.
